I need to have some work done on my Odyssey’s emissions system so it will pass inspection. My Genuine
Honda Service Rep
™
(greatest service rep
in the world;
no really)
gave me a list of
the part numbers and told me what Honda will charge
for them. My Genuine Honda Mechanic™
will put parts on the car that I bring him, but only if they are Genuine Honda Parts™
. My service rep
said he used to have a customer who brought in
real parts that he had bought “somewhere in California
” for close to, if not at,
dealer cost. So, I’m asking the hive if y’all know of a place I can get Genuine
Honda
Parts™
for cheaper.

I astonished that you have a dealer that will install BYOP parts. Very cool.

No, that wouldn’t fly. The mechanic is a somewhat ADHD dude who has probably memorized every Honda part number. He’s a great mechanic, just a little weird. He’s the guy who swapped my engine in about a day.

Honda runs an eStore where you can order parts online and pick up at a local dealer to avoid shipping charges. You can use it to cross-shop different dealers.
I’ve seen genuine Honda parts on Amazon & eBay too, though you might want to make sure Amazon’s the seller.

You called the Odyssey the Best Minivan Ever Made....while Long-Voyager loves and worships old Mopar vans. If he sees this he’ll... remind you... of his stance on the Best Minivan Ever Made

HondaPartsNow.com might be worth a look. I recently helped a coworker with finding a Genuine Honda part (mirror component ) and I was able find it there for what I thought was reasonable. I’ve not used it personally, but my coworker seemed happy.

I absolutely love my Honda guy. He understands where I am at with this vehicle, and goes out of his way to help make the repairs as cheap as possible. Every time I have to go there we usually spend a long time talking about vacations, family, you name it. He’s a road cyclist who goes to Europe just to ride. Great guy.

I know Google, but I also don’t know suppliers, who is reputable, who is not. Who will sell me what they claim to be real parts when they aren’t. That’s why I ask people with more experience. Thanks.

Gotcha. Well, he’s entitled to his opinion. He’s also entitled to be wrong. ;)

FYI, you can’t have the “Best Minivan Ever Made”, you lack a turbo/manual.

It’s not different, it’s just the correct opinion ;)

I have found some Genuine Honda parts on Amazon. Relativly cheap as I think their pricing algorithm isn’t the same as a dealer’s pricing (even those dealers that sell through their own websites online). I go with the sold and shipped by Amazon as my best bet to authenticity. The parts appear to be OEM from Honda in the proper packing and labels.

I just had to have a seat belt tensioner replaced. My Kia guy takes pretty good care of me, but he was simply no go on me bringing my own part that I bought. The dealer’s policy is that they can’t be held responsible for the function of a part that they can’t certify as OEM. I don’t blame them, because if they installed a customer-supplied part from eBay or something, and it it failed, I bet many if not most would hold them responsible for the failure and expected them to warrant it.

I’ve never seen it with dealers.

Hm. The Ford dealer I take the ST too has never voiced any concerns about slapping on the dumb stuff I ask them to.
I’ve never had any other experience though.

I mean, I like the world you live in better than mine. Maybe your experience is more common than I had thought. If so, the world is a little bit better than I though when I woke up.
Like I said earlier though, I can’t really be too upset with my dealer service if they refuse to install parts they can’t guarantee the provenance of, because if something goes wrong with the part, they will probably be held responsible. It becomes really messy sometimes to sort out the part from the labor that goes with it.
